In this application, a robot carries a head that unwinds carbon fiber tows and applies them to a rotating mold to make a pressure vessel. Perfect synchronization between the linear and rotary axes is required to avoid bulges on the curved section of the part. Redex TwinDrive and DualDrive systems with Zero-backlash ensure that the axes synchronize and the part is compliant. Due to the reducer pinion and rack precision, the position is controlled by an encoder on the servo-motor eliminating the need for expensive linear scales.
