Applications for Planetary Epicyclic Drives

Timing Movements (between two elements of a machine):

Timing MovementsThe differential system is also used to control advance and return movements on non-woven textile machines.  It responds perfectly to the high frequency production rates and the precision necessary in this application.

The Planetary Epicyclic Drive permits the distribution of the advance-return movements without stopping or reversing the drive motor.

The case (1) is driven at a constant speed.

Advance Mode:

  • Brake A stops Central Bore (3)
  • Output from Torque Arm Sleeve (2) drives in the positive direction

Return Mode:

  • Brake B stops Torque Arm Sleeve (2)
  • Output from Central Bore (3) drives in the negative direction

The movements are automatically distributed by the Planetary Epicyclic Drive and the brakes are sized to stop the inertia of the system.  The response time and the frequency of the advance-return system depends on the quality and size of the brakes.

The large inertia of the case (1) allows the input to the Planetary Epicyclic Drive to act as a flywheel, therefore diminishing the size of the drive motor.
