Applications for Planetary Epicyclic Drives

Balance Speed & Torque (of two elements of a machine connected mechanically by the product):

Linear CapstanFragile products are often driven by a linear capstan which requires a perfect synchronization of the linear speed of the top and bottom belts in relation to the product.  The Planetary Epicyclic Drive automatically insures this speed match which prevents slipping and eliminates the deterioration of the product.

The choice of reduction ratio K determines the torque relationship for the application.

Opposite direction of rotation: the motor drives the Case (1) and the reaction between the Torque Arm Sleeve (2) and the Central Bore (3) causes these elements to rotate in opposite directions.

Balance Speed & TorqueIn the textile industry, the use of a very long beam, necessitates a drive system which insures uniform tension across the entire length.

Same direction of rotation: the motor drives the Torque Arm Sleeve (2) and the two outputs (the Case (1) and the Central Bore (3)) insure equilibrium.

Torque BalanceIn this case the proper selection is p = 2 to get:

           2N2 = N1 + N3
