Applications for Cycloidal Differentials

Cyclic Synchronization of Two Speeds:

The DLS cycloidal differential is combined with a small servo-motor to provide impression positioning on a printing press.  The DLS drives the web with a cyclic motion which allows many different impression lengths using the same circumference impression cylinder.

The web is driven at the synchronous linear speed when the impression is printing, then the servo-motor driving the secondary input of the differential stops the web until the next impression begins.

The DLS cycloidal differential offers the following advantages in this application:

• Various impression lengths with one impression cylinder
• Mechanically guaranteed synchronous speed
• Low torque, inexpensive servo-system
